Hi all,

I've read a lot on this forum about the Mjet grande punto 1.9 having some starting issues and can't seem to find a fix for it.

My car *sometimes* take up to 4 goes to get it started, and when it does a puff of white smoke comes out of the exhaust. Some kind of blockage maybe?? This doesn't happen all of the time and even when it does, the smoke goes away as soon as I set off and the car is absolutely fine driving.

I've had the battery checked, alternator checked, glow plugs checked all fine.

Any of you know anything I can try to resolve this issue? It's quite annoying :bang:

I had this on my 1.9 GP.
A new battery solved it for me, despite the battery seeming fine when tested.

Yeah, my battery tested out OK too - though I'm sure the guy who tested said the battery that comes with this car is s***.

Might just get a new one, can't do any harm..

Yes, it is. As the weather gets colder expect the issue to get worse!

If you do go down that route, I'd recommend the Exide battery over the cheap Lion Brand ones you see floating about, mainly as the Exide has higher Cold Cranking Amps.

Providing you've checked the usual culprits like the glowplugs, battery etc, Worth giving the EGR a clean. Mine did this, to an extent that a new battery made an improvement, but giving the EGR a good clean made a noticable difference.

The battery made a good improvement on this, but it still happens occasionally and there's nothing worse

Time to scrap I think... Shame, I love the car but it's just unreliable.

I've read a load of threads here and people have spent fortunes trying to fix this and no good.

Anyone heard about the earth problem for the ecu? I've heard this is something to check?
