Anyone put a window regulator back together rather than replacing? Mine is working ok, except for the fact the cable has unwound and got all tangled up.

I've seen repair kits on ebay, and the cabling for those is very tightly wound. Mine doesn't sit around the spindle tightly so wondering if its got too bent out of shape to realistically work well again?

Hi there,

IMO unless is had been purposedly bent, the bracket is in its original shape; I can hardly imagine a so tiny cable bending this metal (L-shaped section !) piece. I'd rather suspect the plastic parts... Was you cable totally lose or just 'not so tight' ? As I can see the cable is spring loaded (left end) and the spring size shouldn't allow very much tension on the cable...

I would re-assemble it and check 'in-situ' how it behaves, maybe comparing to the other door.

BRs, Bernie

Thanks Bernie. I think what has happened is one of the lengths of wire has popped out of place from the orange connector which attached to the window itself. As you can see in the picture, the two lengths of wire are separate from each other but from pictures of working regulators, it looks like they both feed into the orange block and then wrap tightly around the spool, and wrap around each of the rollers on the ends of the metal assembly.

It's a really fiddly job trying to get the wire wrapped back around the white spool without it coming unravelled again, which leads me to think the wire has got stretched and won't ever wrap round tightly again without some very careful adjustment.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem possible to purchase a new assembly without the motor as well (which is working fine in my case), so I've just ordered a used one on eBay to save my fingers and sanity :)

P.S. If anyone wants a working regulator motor, or any of the rest of the assembly (minus the wire) - let me know!!
