Morning all.

A very long time since I last posted on here, but I've always been lurking ;)

Need some technical advise, hopefully from a Fiat Tech that can cast some light on this for me!

First, a bit of background to the issue:

I've got a 09 Grande Punto Multijet Sporting which I'd set about doing a full service on but ended up having to go to a local garage as I couldn't get the filter housing cap off. So off I dropped it along with the oil and new filter element.
At some stage, someone has had a go at the cap and has butchered the flutes making it extremely difficult to remove.
The garage looked into a replacement housing cap in case they had to "remove" it a certain way and called the local Fiat dealership who gave him one part number that was around £20, and another being £120.

I though this seemed a bit odd so did some research of my own.

Around 03/08, Fiat changed the filter housing cap on the 1.9 Multijet from the stumpy sized one that's on a few Alfas as well, to one that's slightly taller that's fitted on a lot of more modern Alfas, Vauxhalls, etc), the former being the expensive sort (that turned out to be the one fitted to my car?!), the latter the cheaper one.

Now I ordered the replacement oil filter based on my Registration number to make sure I got the correct one, this corresponds to the taller size cap as it's a taller filter. When the garage got the existing cap off it had the old sized filter on it and said the filter I've bought will not fit the stumpy sized housing cap so they ordered the shorter filter instead.

My question is for next time, will the new taller filter cap with the new sized (taller) filter fit? I would have thought so, I cannot see Fiat changing the block casting for a different sized housing?! This would be a lot easier to remove as I'm sure the housing cap has a 32mm hex on top too?

Hopefully I've not bored you all to death!

TIA

Dan

27mm socket (six sides) , extension and ratchet does the job on my 1.3mjt.
Tall filter will fit tall housing, smaller one's will fit each other. The block remains the same, as filters diameters...

Cheers for the responses chaps.

I've ordered the taller filter housing (from a 1.3 Multijet) for £11 from eBay, will keep it for next service and swap them over.
Will be upping the regularity of the servicing now anyway, as will be getting it remapped shortly :)
