Hi All,
First post but not really a newbie, more of a lurker and researcher previously.
The girlfriend has a 2008 Grande Punto 1.3 Multijet that was poorly. The OBD2 was claiming it to be the glowplugs and a stuck EGR. Having done engines before I did not think it too much of an issue to fix it myself...boy was I wrong...
Heated everything up and took to removing the glowplugs which resulted in 2 snapping off...Fine thought I will rig up a jig (got a full machineshop) and drill the offending plugs out using a special stepdrill. Extremly bad mistake...the stepdrill wandered and I drilled into the waterjacket :bang::bang::bang::bang:
And here the real muckery begins: New head and rocker cover, including gaskets and head bolts ordered at discount rates Special timing tools (TDC bolt etc) also purchased.
To remove the rocker cover, I had a hell of a time due to a single stuck injector. Rigged up a screwjack puller and got that chappy out but it is buggered. So new reconditioned injector was bought.
This weekend I put everything back together without any screws left over and only one screw stripped. The timing mark on the flywheel is so much easier to find if you have a boroscope to see the hole If anyone needs help here I can definately help
Anyway, with all bits back in and all fluid topped up, the car starts and idles. Rough but it idles. Did not get any ECU light and the glow plugs work fine! I guess I need to code the new injector.
What is more troubling is that when I came to move it up the drive this morning, the accelerator pedal was practically ineffective. The revs did not go up at all.
Any ideas what I need to check here?
Thanks for taking the time to read through my woes, it has been a learning experience for sure, one that I would not repeat in a hurry.
Regards
G
