I'm back and still suffering from my car running in limp mode...

I've just ran a diagnostics test and received the following codes-

P0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation "A" Flow Insufficient Detected

P0234 - Turbocharger "A" Overbost Condition

I haven't been able to use my car to it's full potential since purchasing and was wondering whether anyone had any experience with these problems and found a solution.

For p0234 i had the same problem and it was a faulty map sensor.
As for p0401 it should be a blocked intake manifold or blocked egr in closed position. Test the egr for malfunction in a garage

As above, I had the same: Egr changed, but turned out to be maf sensor. Car went better after this was changed than it had in the previous 7 years since new!

Hi :)

I drove around with P0234 for a looong time. I got very good at changing before hitting 3000 revs as the garage I'd taken it to told me that I'd need a new turbo

After consulting the gurus here (mainly Bernie) :worship: and then taking it to a Fiat afficionado in deepest Lancashire I found that it was a stuck turbo wastegate that was causing the limp mode. It can be freed by using a prise bar or a long sturdy screwdriver but its awkward to access.

Here's Bernie in all his wisdom:

Hi Mattyo,

should have told us, you probably have your wastegate not opening, generating an overboost situation that pops-up the P0234 and put the engine in safe (limp) mode.

Verify all (small) pipings near the turbo:

- there is a 3 way valve controled by the ECU
- when boost is too high, this valve opens the wastegate with turbo's high pressure output
- when boost back to normal, the valve return the pressure from wastegate actuator to turbo's low pressure inlet
- a broken or disconnected pipe will cause the wastegate not opening, thus overboosting
- a bad menbrane in the actuator would have the same effect
- a seized wastegate also ...
- and finally, an obstructed pipe aswell ...

Regards, Bernie

Best of luck, once mine was sorted the car was much nicer to drive (y)
