hi guys was getting a little smell of fuel when i took me old dears punto out for a run, it only did it slightly on idle..

had a quick look around and there is a pipe that go's in to the back of the airbox and it is split at the end..could this be the problem? and where does it go to?

also noticed throttle body was a little gunked with oil so gave it a clean could the split hose be causing this to happen also?

if anyone has a pic or link to where i can purchase it would be much appreciated

It sounds like the crankcase breather pipe that takes piston blow by gasses from inside the engine and mixes them with clean air to be burnt, the gasses cause the rubber pipe to perish ,a leak here can cause fumes in the cabin,a fiat dealer may even have this in stock .

I replaced both pipes a few weeks ago on daughters Grande Punto 2008 1.2 8v Active.

Under air box the larger one was well perished and bunged up full of coffee coloured Mayo crap (car just been bought 2nd hand) that pipe is £9.99 off ebay and now modified so more flexible and stronger than original

Just type in on ebay: Grande Punto 199 breather pipe

And running from back of airbox to back of throttle housing is a smaller, thinner pipe. On mine that was split half way down. I just fitted some reinforced fuel pipe I had in garage which was same bore, cut to length, is clear pipe so I can now check if it starts getting the mayonnaise crap building up in future.

This pipe is around £10-£16 on the bay or local motor factors, think I seen £30 somewhere for Fiat main agent?

While air box off, clean your throttle body inlet as it will be grubby and the plastic valve/union inside airbox where the pipes connect (use WD40 or similar) dead easy to swap out pipes and use a jubilee clip to re-fit large pipe for easy job next time. Hope that helps
