Hi, Sorry for the delay but i come on here once or twice a day and while i do have a smart phone it's smarter than me! Yes, i was an MG/Rover technician and a Ford Master Tech before i left the dark side to work for an independent. I hav'nt used that Wynns stuff but it may be worth a try. I guess the first thing i'd check if it came into our place is the oil pressure, the tappets are among the last things in the oil supply so if it's low they will suffer and not pump up as well as they should. Is there a Vauxhall specialist as opposed to a dealer near you, if so it may be worth having a word with them first.

Yeah I have hear about oil pressure. That's not a diy job is it as you use some type of tool. I did check the oil pressure switch. But it was fine not leaking etc. Mot to sure about a vauxhall specialist I'll have a look around and poss look to change it

Also maggers I notice the wynns hydraulic lifter fluid says it's for hydraulic. How do you tell if car is hydraulic or solid lifters. Got a picture with my valve cover off. IMG_1864.jpeg IMG_1869.jpegIMG_1866.jpeg

You need an oil pressure test kit.
Unscrew oil pressure switch , screw in adapter , attach oil pressure gauge , start engine and then read pressure.
To do the test correctly, engine should be be allowed to warm up, monitoring the pressure .
I'm not maggers but hope this helps.

Cheaper than an oil pressure test kit is a pressure gauge and cobble together your own adapter to connect a hose to pressure switch threaded hole.

Hey jack, no thanks I appreciate any feedback from anyone. Maggers has been a big help too but also cz he a mechanic also. But massive thanks to u for letting me know

Hey jack. Quick one is an oil compression test kit the same as using a compression test kit

Don't worry was just kidding you about Maggers who gives great advice.
Well done with posting pictures very helpful.

If you have valve cover off again look down into engine where chain goes and look for broken plastic chain guide or tensioner blade.

They are hydraulic, solid ones have adjusters.

I disagree with that, Fiat USED to have solid ones WITHOUT adjusters (e.g. Fiat 128); the gap was adjusted by means of shims, the sequence was as:
- measure the gap
- remove the shim
- measure the shim
- make math
- install the correct thickness shim ...

Regarding the noisy lifter, it could have become sticky or its oil feed got (partially) blocked. Some additive manufactuers (Intelligent liquid...) claim their stuff will do magic on noisy (lifter) engines. It's not really for free but maybe worth a try...

In the photos the hydraulic adjusters are visible , zoom in

If you remove valve cover again check each rocker arm under each cam lobe, check the roller on each rocker arm . do this check with each cam lobe up, wiggle each rocker arm compare them to each other , if you find a particularity loose one that could be a problem.

Yeah I think I am going to try wynns hydraulic lifter fluid and give that ago and then do next steps in turn.

Hi are you sure the tapping/ticking noise you have isn't the fuel injectors opening and closing? -the noise the injectors make is quite pronounced on the type of engine you have.
