Please can someone assist me, i currently have cloth seats and intend on installing leather. I have the new seats and as far as I can see the drivers seat does not have the wire for the seat belt not worn. They have the usual bolster wear but by swooping the seat bases which are easy to remove you end up with the bolsters that have never been sat across on the out side, I expected both to have the wire hanging out the bottom. I assume they work by weight on the seat closing a normally open contact, therefore the system expects the seat belt to be plugged in and it turns off the light/alarm. If that's the case then if the seat contacts remain normally open permanently then it would never expect the seat belt to be put on and there would be no issues. I have MES and have used it to silence the alarm as it annoyed me that if your passenger took to long to put the belt on then the noise was quite piercing. The strangest thing is why only the passenger seat has the connection I would very much like someone to enlighten me as to why that is, thank you

Not yet cleaned up but you get the idea that the wear is now on the inside

Hi, this is just an explanation tentative !!

The system needs to detect IF a passenger is seated, so it can warn the user to fasten his seat belt.
When the car is driven, there MUST be someone sitting in the driver's seat, so the system is not even looking for it, the fasten seat belt warning will be triggered as soon as the car moves (thanks to ABS / Velocity sensor).

Does that make sense ??

Could that be that your leather seats are coming from a left hand driven car ??

That's brilliant, I'm asking as I'm thinking out loud and you hit the nail on the head, now it's obvious there is no need for a switch in the drivers seat but sometimes unless someone points out the obvious you just can't see it, thank you, as you can see in the pic I have swopped the bases, but the light is very on now(in my head) and I can see exactly how to achieve what want

Thank you

Got the confirmation from eLearn digging that there is only one seat equipped with the presence detector, left or right depending of rigth or left-hand driven car...
K065 is the code for that switch, it's a NO type.

If someone here helped You understand -or better- solve your issue, hit the thanks icon @ the bottom right corner, it's free and makes us feel helpy...

Scrubbed, dyed where required and leather cared, thanks Bernie pointing out the obvious has motivated me to do some restoration prior to fitting

They look real good ! What dye and leather care are you using ?

Regards, Bernie

All fitted, no warning lights. The leather treatment is bmw own make, as supplied with mini and BMW, though I get this for nothing so your bound to use it and it is very good but if I was to recommend one it would have to be auto glym, white squared off bottle with orange writing, that stuff is awesome, my car smells new again

The dye says the scratch medic, there is a scratch doc and others, they are probably all the same though

As a result of fitting the leather I lost a seat in the rear which was a step rearwards, so I stripped the seat, removed the covers, and did some investigation. Visited the scrap yard and removed a similar belt from a donor car, don't see it makes any odds which car as long as the new belt location has the same geometry as the old, this is due to angle sensitive mechanisms in the seat belt. Although the seat has no belt and I've never seen a non 60/40 seat with a belt the rear panel has a hole in the correct place. In essence the belt mech is mounted with specific seatbelt mounting nuts and bolts, I have mounted it with two 19mm for the structure and the 1 inch metal band doesn't serve any structural purpose but kept it held in place whilst I worked out how to mount it all. I reinforced the rear upright section where it is bolted, it is appreciated that it is a non authorised mod but it mirrors the design from the donor and structurally is over engineered especially in comparison to many oem set ups I have seen.
