So despite the name, ive swapped the vl36 t jet for a 1.9 m-jet..
and i must say i'm impressed.
Finding a diesel for work was inevitable but finding a car same model, colour, year and mileage but with a more economical engine was pure luck.:p

So far so good, loving the torque that the diesel has, and definitely feels faster than a t jet.
it has been mapped by RS tuning in leeds and has 165bhp and around 280 ftlb i believe (need to dig-out dyno sheet)
Appart from coilovers, catback and airfilter what other modifications do you lot think are a good bet on the diesel side of things.
although i don't agree with 'stages' of modifications, the current map is a stage 1, does anybody have upgraded turbos, intercoolers etc etc for 'stage 2' onwards, id really like to get into the 200 bhp or 300 torque club.
thanks! :yum:

Iv no advice but I'm following this one as I'm in the same position wanting to get as close to 300bhp but had no specific advise on turbos etc.

Obviously a bigger turbo, along with intercooler and injectors, and exhaust are obvious but I want to know what makes and models people suggest too :)

yeah seems a few are in the same position, although its only an 8v engine some have managed around 210 on standard internals, ive even tried the alfa forum for more answer :yum:
to be honest im thinking get a manifold made up and then fit a hybrid turbo (if it doesnt mean taking out a mortgage), or any other upgraded turbo, just need to find what works well in the 1.9 jtd :confused:

Yeah I was thinking along the same lines as their a bit awkward and had to put the turbo and manifold welded together meaning getting a custom manifold for another turbo.

I'd assume any turbo capable of up to 300bhp would be ok? Correct me if I'm wrong I'm no expert on turbos.
To me I don't mind a bit of lag as sometimes it nice and more fuel efficient to not always be on boost, (hard I know not to floor it [emoji23])

But to get around another 40-60bhp for the costs it could come too doesn't seem worth it, but if like to do it none the loss.

So if anyone could come along and give us some decent ideas on turbos, and good intercooler would be great [emoji1303]

im no expert either, as far as 300bhp goes it seems high, i think its more the torque in the diesels. i dont mind being around say 220 bhp if its really torquey:)
as far as intercooler goes on my t jet i uprgraded for slightly bigger with 10mm bigger inlets, depending on if you want to pay for an airtech or forge id say something like a toyo sports from ebay would be fine, and better cooler piping and a decat would certainly give more flow and help to add power when mapping in(y)(y)

Yeah Iv been looking around but following advice as I'm saving, id rather buy everything at once, put it on and then get it mapped.

At the minute I definitly love torque or pure power, although they relate to each other but after driving a few cars with decent bhp but no as much torque, doesn't feel as quick, where as in mine I get max torque around 2500rpm so it's great, but can be hard to be efficient and not drive on boost.

On another note if anyone gets some upgrades keep us informed here id love to see it.

Another quick question, I see people stating 200/250bhp is max for the 1.9 engine, is this the max with stock head and block with no forging or just the max the stock turbo is capable off along with everything else? What are the signs of being on the limit of a block and head?
