Hello

Please help..

Just got myself a fiat punto grande 2006 sporting 1.4 16v and I changed the oil with Asda 10w40 (emptied fully, changed the oil filter and filled up).

My engine light is on and sometimes the battery light comes on whilst I am driving.

Whilst driving, when I stopped at a junction the car turned off by itself!

Whilst idle and just started the car it turned itself off too.

I read the code as P0011 and have since tried cleaning the sensor as I accidentally got loads of grease on it when I sprayed WD40 on the alternator belt as it got stuck and it must have sprayed onto the sensor.

This has not helped.

I have read forums that say that even though I used the wrong oil it shouldn't cause major issues - or any noticeable issues.

Does everybody agree on this because I was going to change the oil again to 5w40 but if its not a big deal and will survive til it needs topping up with the correct oil I will leave it.. can I top it up with the 5w40 whilst it has a bit of 10w40 inside?

Any other ideas as to how to fix P0011?

Thanks :)

Although it doesnt sound like your actions would have caused this, I have read the cam shaft sensors can get fooled if muck builds up on the tip. Its worth a try to remove it (simple to do) and give it a good clean off and pop back in. No harm in trying and at no cost

Thanks PJ - you have affirmed my next plan as I just sprayed wd40 degreaser on it and gave it a wipe, was going to do it properly and replace the sensor - but I will do what you said first, take it off, clean and put back on. :)

No problem, let me know how that goes. Normally just one screw or bolt that holds it in and the electrical plug to remove.
