Hey Guys,

New to the forum. I look forward to joining in with the community and learning lots over the coming days/weeks and beyond!

I have just bought my second car, a 2006 1.2 Grande Punto. Liking the car so far but I'm having a few issues that I'm hoping you guys might be able to advise me on.

The car from purchase (a couple of weeks ago) until the other day had a very low biting point. You literally only had to lift the clutch an inch or two and the biting point was there. I had Halfords do a free safety check on the car to check the suspension/brakes/clutch etc and since then (probably a coincidence) the biting point has moving considerably to about half way along the clutch. Is this something I should be worried about? The clutch is creaky as anything but Halfords said it was just the mechanism?

I read about clutches slipping and I tried the parking on the car park trick and putting it in second gear with the handbrake on and seeing if it stalled when lifting the clutch and in fact the revs increased a little and the car moved forward with the handbrake on....

Which leads me to my second problem... the handbrake has to be pulled all the way to the absolute top to be effective, especially on a hill. Also when applying the handbrake on an incline there is a clunking noise coming from the back passenger side of the car. Halfords said they couldn't see any issues but I'm obviously concerned.

Any helps guys would be really appreciated.

Many Thanks for your help.

Cheers, Rob

Clutches aren't great. I'm surprised yours has changed so much though. My daughter's bites almost on the floor. Slave cylinders sometimes leak.

Handbrake sounds like its in dire need of adjustment. They are supposed to automatically adjust but the auto adjusters seize. You can do them manually though. Do you intend to do the work yourself? If so, post back and people on here will talk you through the process. If not, the above should be good enough to give to a mechanic and ask to check it out.

Hi Rob,

nothing to add to Avocet's excellent (as usual) reply; just be welcome on the forum !!

Regards, Bernie
