I SMASHED my right front wheel when it snowed a while ago. I replace the wheel and have carried on as usual. The car pulls to the side .. and the left wheel has now started to ware away on the outer edge.

Does anyone thing a 2 wheel alignment toe in/out will do the job or is it a more expensive job?

I can post photographs of wheel ware and with the wheels off if anyone would be able to tell if anything is bent from that?

Also how much will it be for both front suspensions replacing?
(The top mounts do need doing anyway tbh)

Thank you

Hi,

that all depend ow badly you smashed it, kind of hard if you had to replace the wheel ... Car pulls to the side: which one ? BTW was the impact on left or right ? Is you steering wheel "offset" now ?
There is only one adjustable angle on the GP (as on most modern cars): toe, mainly because of the link to the rack and if you have to act on this, you probably have something bent !
My first candidate would be the shock absorber, then the suspension triangle and finally the cross member ...
Have the suspension replaced and then check the front geometry (all angles !), that will tell wether you have other damages or not...

ps: right-click the picture, save as on your disk and you can zoom it pretty deep, all the black shiny stuff at the front are what we're talking about, well, NOT the engine sump...

Bla bla bla about the thanks button, etc. ;-)

As said you have indeed bent something,& as already stated depending how hard the bump was will determine the amount of damage. My first look would be the wishbone, then check the track rod end, these tend to take the first brunt in cases like this. You may be lucky if it stops there. Remember, whatever you find damaged, it's better to change in pairs.

Thank you both for your replies.

It is the left tyre that is wearing and pulling to but the right side is the one I bumped.

I have had a look and the wheels are way off each other.

If it is just toe in/out and not any of the other angles. Which side looks correct comparing to your Grande?

Thank you

Hi,

Definitely have too much negative CAMBER at the left wheel, the tyre should wear at the INNER edge, as you say is wearing the OUTER edge and the car pulls to the left, it's pretty sure there is something bent at underneath / suspension. Have it checked for geometry, she's certainly out of tolerances, tho you might be able to still correct the toe if needed, it may improve the situation but not back to normal...

BTW:

toe (pinçage) is the angle with longitudinal car axis, seen from the top. Should be a bit open to the front so it close when the car pulls (front wheels drive)
camber (carrossage) is the angle with vertical, seen from the front (as your pics). Originally positive to compensate road profile (bumped) for water drainage
caster (chasse) is the pivot angle with vertical seen from the side. This force the wheels to center straight (self return), like on a bike

Regards, Bernie

The steering rod can also bend quite easily. that would only explain the toe in/toe out.
The camber might be because of a bent shock... there is basically no adjustment on that.. although if there is a bit of play in the mounting holes on the shock.. it can be a bit off.

The photo provided is of no way useful.. there is a slope on the road behind,... there are lines on the ground that seem perpendicular.. but it might just be a perspective trick.

Get the car checked. it might just need a steering rod... and resting.
