I was asking to make sure you were testing with a hot engine, that has sat at least 5 minutes, AND that you wipe the dipstick before taking the measurement.
It was an honest question.
I saw a lot of people that don't know to wipe the dipstick, so they always have oil :bang::bang:.

The engine should be warmed up, to make sure all the oil passage ways are full (not that much oil, but 50-100ml can make the difference)


As others have said check the dipstick is the correct one.

If you say oil color is still "like new"-ish.. then i don't think you have any sludge....
If it turns out you do have sludge... before buying an engine try this ( nothing to loose at this point):
- use some diesel, pour it into the engine oil and let it sit like that for 2-3 days (don't drive it)... then drain it, replace oil and filter .. add correct amount. The diesel should start braking down the sludge.. but should not hurt the engine because diesel is basically a very thin oil, it provides some lubrication.
-do 3-4 oil changes a lot sooner like 3-5000km, each time use some engine flush.


I had an older Bravo 1.4 12v .. that i got with oil sludge problems, At one point the camshafts were running dry, engine was making an awful noise. With diesel, cheap oil and filters for 4-5 oil changes i cured it. Later the oil changes were at 15k km without any problems.

See I always thought the level should be checked when the engine is cold not hot maybe I should try this method.

Have you seen the method where you empty your engine out and get a rubber plug with a tube on it fill the engine with diesel and pump air into from the bottom to make it bubble and break down the deposits.

I think I'm gonna use the flush air bought what harm can it do if there is sludge, I've just acquired a metal coat hanger that I'll test when the rain stops hahaha but I did manage to take the old filter apart and there is no sludge just an old dirty filter see the pic hehe.

Pretty sure Your engine is running with very little oil from far ago... Not realy a problem IF the pressure kept high enough (no warning light).
How about removing the sump and be 100% 'bout what happens ??

Never taken one of before to be honest buddy, but hey I like a challenge hehe I'll see how the dipstick goes from my mates starjet then I'll poke my coat hanger to the bottom and see if I get any sludge. I'll keep everyone posted thanks for the input fellow puntoers hahaha
 
Really looks like a 10 bolts job (well probably a bit more ;-).
Just checked on my 13MJT90: the active area of the dipstick starts 6mm from the end and extends 25 mm. This 25mm represent 1 liter (learnt from school but might be wrong), so if hitting the sump bottom, 31mm would be a little more than 1,25 liter with mark on top...
From tip to where it sits (passed the 2 O-rings) length is 658mm.

Maybe NOT relevant since it's a Diesel 1.3 though !

OK so I went to take my mates dipstick and was hard to pull out so I didn't want to break it and left hers and managed to source a 1.4 16v dipstick. The new one is 19 inches from the end to before the handle and mine is 25 inches from end to handle. A little worrying, I can't see the 19 inches going all the way in. The garage I went to said put another litre to see if it hits the new dipstick what do you guys think.
 
I don't think randomly putting in another litre of oil is a wise idea[emoji849], why don't you start from scratch?
Drain the oil and refill it using exactly the correct amount of oil using a measuring jug, handbook will tell you the amount you require.
Then see where it is on your dipstick.
TBH I wouldn't be worried about where it is on the dipstick, more important is that you have the correct amount in the engine

I think I will after finding out the 19 inches one is from a 1.9 diesel idiots.
 
Time to stop talking like old ladies here, go to a Fiat dealer, buy the correct dipstick FOR YOUR ENGINE and fill the engine to the top notch, you'll most probably find that you poured the exact amount of oil as recommended ...

Sorry for the late update, so since putting the right ammount of oil in and a new filter the oil is like a maple syrup colour which is good, and the best bit is bo more diesel engine noises yayyy. Only problem I still have is the dipstick is too long so i need a new one the diesel one is to short I need a 22 inch one.
 
Poor engine that has been running with so little lubricanr since ages... :-(
Hopefully it was premium quality oil, but honestly I doubt...

Anyway, it's great that it does sound much quiter by now though that doesn't mean no damage were done :-(

And as Aulrick says : DO BUY THE CORRECT PART !!
The exact engine code should be written in the car's papers...

So that could be the beginning of an explanation : "spare" dipstick coming from same donor engine, but with A/C , being longer to accomodates extra A/C stuff ??

Part ordered with the VIN @ an official dealer should close this thread ...
