Hi,

It looks like the clutch slave cylinder has let go on my 2008 1400cc 8v GP.

I'll get a new slve tomorrow but my question is this, how do you disconnect the flexi fluid hose to it, and open/shut the bleed nipple. I ask as they are unfamiliar in design to me- plastic looking- and I don't want to break anything. I've done slaves on older cars and I'm used to metal fittings and 8mm bleed nipples on older stuff.

Thanks,

John

It's basically the same, just be careful of over-tightening on plastic. If you've done it before then you know the procedure.

Thanks digger.

So the bleed valve just opens and shuts with a spanner?

On the fluid hose connection there looks like a thin metal horseshoe type clip?

Remove that clip and the piping will go off (pull a bit) ... Usualy it falls on the floor so depending where you do that take preventive action to retrieve it easily ;-)

Regards, Bernie

Thanks Bernie.

Just got the old slave off. Hose is just push fit with an O-ring secured by the clip- simples when you know how!

It looks as though the bleed valve is simply turned open/shut by hand.

Cheers,

John

You did not even lost the clip !? Well done John ;-)

Cheers, Bernie

I've fitted the new slave cylinder - a Delphi part which was metal bodied instead of the plastic original one, and it also has a conventional type bleed nipple.

I've bled this for ages using about half a big bottle of fluid and had clear fluid running out for most of the process.

The clutch pedal now feels extra light and a bit strange but the car selects 1st, reverse and changes gear fine but the bite point is now very low, almost just of the carpet, whereas before it bit at about 1/6 to 1/4 travel off the floor. Could this be trapped air?

Yes it's trapped air inside cylinder. it will go away after a day or two (y)

Hi John,

was it fully retracted when you installed it ? Can't use the pressurized bleeding method, quick, easy, one person job and 100% efficient...

Yeah it was fully retracted.

Today it has actually been fine so I have to agree with cmosfxx so far. Hopefully it will stay ok...

I might get a pressure bleeder (kind that goes on airline) in future. These actually suck the fluid/air out of the bleed nipple and I've heard good things about them for bike brakes which can be a pain to bleed.

Thanks

Just used a draper one man kit one mine, was as described by cmos and stiffened up after a day or two of driving. Bled again and got a few more bubbles out, fine ever since.

Cheers
