Getting an engine judder, can happen in all gears, seems to be when I try putting my foot down, also can happen from setting off and just has no power and takes about to kick in, my punto is a 1.2 L petrol and has 64k on the clock, any ideas??? Clutch and gearbox have only done 10k as got replaced... any ideas would be nice???

Same thing happened to me in my fiat tempra then my gearbox broke after 6 months ?

Had it before and after new gearbox so feel that isn't the problem, new clutch as well, it feels more like an a fine power problem

Hi Danny,

sorry for my very bad english understanding, by judder do you mean, vibrate, shake or knock ?
At what rpm does this happen when you put your foot down ?

Regards, Bernie

Judder as in the car intermittently looses power, happens at any rpm really, engine management light Comes on as it happens but goes after it stops, feel as if could be engine problem, or maybe transmission, not too sure

1. Have you checked the pipes under the airbox, they rot and cause problems?
2. Have you had the timing belt changed?
3. When was it last serviced?

Judder as in the car intermittently looses power...

Do you mean kinda hesitating and then willing to go and then hesitating again and finally running ok ?
If so you might have a misfiring cylinder ; check for bad spark plug / connection and inspect the injectors / connections.
During acceleration, the ECU increases the injected fuel quantity to obtain max torque from the engine, in this case, one "weak" plug might not ignite the mixture properly...

If someone helped You here fix or understand your issue, hit the thanks button, it's free !!

Yeah can happen a few times before it really starts going, thought it could possibly be a spark plug.

Can't say I'm sure what the airbox is, not quite up to it with cars and engines, timing belt not changed since I bought it at 45000 miles, got 64450 miles now, also not serviced since I bought.

Bernie how would I inspect the plugs????

Hmmm, well, I guess you better bring the car to a good mechanic and invest in a service. I would suggest going to an ex-Fiat dealer (they self-called them Fiat or whatever specialist here on the continent, not sure how it's ruled in the UK) they usually are very experienced and cheaper than the huge garage/showrooms that the customer finally pays for nice carpet and lights.

There is no magic solution if you can't do it yourself, rule of thumb here once again: if you don't know what you plan to do, don't do it !!

Regards, Bernie

Have you located the thanks icon (little smiley at right bottom corner ;-) ?

I'm having a judder like you for the past 3 days, I'm gonna change the plugs tomorrow I'll post if it cures it.

Sorry was abouts to reply after changing my plugs I noticed a big improvement. Cheapest option first really though isn't it.

Thanks for letting us know, Danny should be on the right track now...

Regards, Bernie
