Hey guys

Need some help with my 2007 1.9 grande punto. I've had the abs light on and recently diagnosed it to find that they aren't working. Before going to Fiat and spending an arm and a leg, I've spotted a Punto Emotion being stripped for parts, was wondering if the front sensors (the ones I need) of the Emotion will be compatible with mine?

Appreciate any advice (-:

Hi StormN,

I ran a similar issue on my GP 1.3 MJT a few months ago so got some experience with it.
HOW have you diagnosed that "they are not working" ? What have you done so far, so one can give some good (hopefully) advice ?

Regards, Bernie

Hi Bernie

I used an ODB diagnosing tool to get a 'front right/left speed sensor not functioning'. I then cleared the fault and then found that every time I pressed the brake, even at very low speeds, you could feel the abs activating. Then the abs, asr, esp and hill holder warnings come up again after braking a few times.

May I also add that the disc look like they're warped and the pads need to be replaced as well. Will this cause the speed sensor faults?

The ABS "actuator" part is located on the half transmission shaft itself, so the disc or the pads have no effect on it. I strongly believe that the sensors are all the same for GPs (mass production) so I would go for canibalise the poor old Emotion ...

Regards, Bernie

A few more stuff, hope you can read drawings...

Thanks for your help Bernie, I got the sensors yesterday and installed them as well, however the same fault is still there. Tested them while driving to see if they pick up the wheel speed and they do. Could it be the abs module itself?

Also I've checked the test on Elearn, which involves a few things like checking whether there's air in the system, will try do those today.

Have you cleared (OBD) the fault(s) ?
Do you still have warning lights on the dash ?
Is you car braking correctly (even with no ABS acting) ?

Don't waste your time looking for air in the circuit if the car brakes ok !
Answer the questions above and I will try to drive you in the correct direction (as I had/solved the same issue)...

If someone helped you on this forum, hit the thanks button, it costs nothing...

Yes cleared the faults with both the old sensors and the sensors salvaged from the Emotion with the same result. The abs, esp, hill holder and asr warning lights come up as soon as you drive off.

Once I cleared the faults though, the hill holder works as I'm driving out the driveway but as soon as I get going all the warning signs come back on.

I've ran tests on the abs pump and all the load and drain valves and they all seem to be working fine. Next step I might try is to check for breaks in the wiring coming from the sensor connecting to the abs module.

I've had a strong and hill hold warning lights on and off daily with the engine management light also. Had the car motd and needed two new hand break cables. Turned out the caliper was retracting properly and voila all errors gone.

Just an update will get the brake pads and discs sorted out before I go any further.

Haven't had the chance to individually check the speed sensors on the multiecuscan as yet, will do that once breaks have been done.

Hi guys just a conclusion to this thread, had to replace the front right hub and on inspection of the bearing, found out that the bearings were incorrectly installed (backwards) so the sensors weren't picking up the magnetic strip at all. got the bearings replaced and correctly installed and all is well now, no warning lights at all.

Thanks again for all the help, the forum has made Fiat ownership slightly easier haha
