Hi,

My Grande Punto 1.4 8v OSF window is effectively stuck shut.

When you press the switch there is a noise from the door as if it's trying to work but is stuck in position- almost as if the window was frozen in it's guides. It's not frozen.

Any ideas or tips before I pull the door card off?

Thanks,

John

Or window wire has come off either winder mechanism or cogs but you will still have to go into the door to find out and fix. Pretty each to get in there though.

Thanks guys.

I'll take the door card off on Wednesday when I have a couple of hours free and take a look.

It's more like a clunk sound rather than the motor whirring as if either the door glass is stuck in it's guides or the mechanism is seized.

Hello John,

I have the exact same problem intermittently. I installed some aftermarket speakers and since the front window O/S will stop going up. I put it down to the wiring loom as I caught it with the door card and damage the loom!

Try using both the passenger and drivers window buttons at the same time, this usually works for me, if not remove the door card look for caught/damaged wires and then try again.

Best of luck solving the problem, I still have a new loom lying around but cba to take the door card off and fiddle with wires.

Thanks for the above advice.

I'm now thinking I need a replacement regulator??

I've pulled the door card to have a look and the wiring all looked like new and the regulator cable seemed to be in the correct places and not broken, twisted or frayed etc.

It is a bit like the motor isn't getting enough juice as it just clunks twice as you press and release the switch.

I'm assuming the relay (same one for both sides??) is ok as the passenger window is fine, and if the fuse was gone it would be totally dead.

Has anyone done a regulator? Any tips? Is the glass secured to the regulator with a clip, glued, bolted??

Is there a simple way to disconnect the interior pull handle cable as it prevented me from taking the door card away, I had to prop it up on boxes to look in the door but that will be a real pain if I have to get the regulator out.

Many thanks,

John

Hi John,

regarding the handle puller, there should be a kind of clip on the cable where it connects to the locking mechanism; You have to twist it away from the cable and then release it from where it is attached. Hard to explain but You should understand once You'll see it.

What do you mean exactly by "regulator" ?

Regards, Bernie

Thanks Bernie.

Does the door handle cable clip undo at the handle end or the lock end inside the door?

By regulator I mean the motor and cables assembly that is normally changed as a whole unit.

Read somewhere that the window regulators make a lot of noise and it's been suggested before to get rid of that noise to spray WD40 on the regulator (I think [correct me if I'm wrong]) to reduce noise. Just wondering if a little bit of lubrication may un-seize the teeth? have you tried wobbling the window whilst using the window button, may help to get it up? Once you get it shut you could take it to the garage to get it inspected, fiat dealerships are renowned to be expensive , but this sounds like specialist job, so would recommend them. Just my two pence, hopefully you get it sorted, its a real in in the a** otherwise.

I changed the regulator and all sorted.

One tip is that if like mine the window is stuck in the fully 'up' position it is potentially a pain to get the regulator out. If you intend to junk the old regulator cutting the cables relieves all the tension and it drops out much easier.

Thanks for all advice above.

John
