General Rattling noise during acceleration

Hi guys,

This problem has been going on for a couple months but now its persisting and i was advised to get some help. Every time I accelerate or clutch down hard, there seems to be some rattling noise, particularly at the lower gears and when i rev past 3000. any ideas?

If you search the forum you'll find lots of different causes. Depends on whether it's an engine noise which will tend to increase in speed with rotational frequency or just a rattle


If just a rattle then start with the obvious:
1. The airbox intake pipe rubber grommet wears - solution is a couple of cable ties
2. The front exhaust hanger rusts through
3. The gearbox mount wears - you can get a poly insert (depending on model)
4. Again model dependent the strut bars get bent and rattle against the exhaust


If engine noise then suspect:
1. The alternator or water pump. Have a close listen (carefully as the engine will be running)
2. The clutch release bearing - should go away or at least change if you gently rest your foot on the clutch pedal
