I have an 07 Grande Punto 1.2 and yesterday when leaving a car park There was a loud snapping noise, like a cable snapping ( a type of boing). It was dark and I couldn't see anything and car felt ok. So this morning, had to go to an appointment and as I was driving down the road, there was a banging and something felt as though it had fallen off the car (sounded from under the bonnet) I stopped and found this on the pavement. I am not sure if it came from my car but it would make the sort of noise I heard if it had come from my car. I looked under the bonnet and I don't know whether I am imagining it, but I thought there should be something in the area that I have circled?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yep, as above if that as come from your car (and the noise is consistent) it'll need replaced. You ought to replace both springs (either front or rear, depending which has snapped) or the handling characteristics of the car will be compromised.
For what it's worth, nothing is missing from the circled area.

Yes I had that (2006 1.2GP) about 18 months ago. Mine was a Front spring. Cost just under £200 to have both sides replaced. Only takes a couple of hours if you have a garage which knows what they're doing

Took it to local garage and they put new osf coil spring on...£100 just before crimbo... great...all sorted now, thanks for the help guys

Unrelated to your original problem, but the rubber seal on your scuttle panel is loose at the driver's side. If you've not already fixed it, just needs pushing back into place.

thanks for that, I didn't notice, but will put it back tomorrow
Cheers
