Hi. I have joined this forum to try and seek a solution on behalf of my son who has a 2008 Fiat Punto Eleganze 1.4

He has a problem in that the heater fan remains on its lowest setting and there is no where near enough puff to keep the screen from misting. I have read many posts on here that discuss problems with the resistor pack burning out. This component would seem to be easily accessible but does not appear apply to models with climate control. There is no resistor pack to be found below the glove box on the Eleganza :-(

Can anyone offer any advice or a suggested fix this please.

Thanks in advance.

by this you mean you cant hear the fan speed increasing when you put it on faster?

if it makes louder noise is the cabin filter clean?

heres a screen dump of fan speed problems with climate control from fiat manual

The fan does not work when the speed control button is used

With the engine started, set the climate control system control unit to the AUTO position, adjust the temperature to 22 °C, place the recirculation at the outside air intake and the distribution to the front position.

Adjust the fan button (+ side) gradually increasing the speed set and then decrease the speed using the button (- side), thereby checking the effect of the air flow rate variation.

End of diagnosis

The fan does not work

Move on to Step 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Connect the diagnostic equipment and check:

- that there are no errors at the passenger compartment fan (motor + speed governor)

- that there are no errors linked to the fan (short circuit errors).

--------------------------------------------------------------------

With the engine switched off, remove the control unit from the dashboard support and disconnect the connector visually inspecting for any damage at the connector contacts and reconnect it correctly to for check for any false contacts.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check whether the electrical wiring connections are loose:

Disconnect/reconnect the connection to the engine mounting.

Disconnect the connector and connect to a feeder (12V DC).

In these conditions the motor should turn at the maximum speed indicating that the operating moduel (speed governor) is not working

Thank you for your reply Andy.

The diagnostic steps described are useful and I will try and implement these. Just to clarify, the LCD display on the climate control is showing increasing and decreasing power as the fan control buttons are adjusted up and down. Warm air is delivered into the cabin. However, the actual heater motor is delivering air speed at its lowest setting regardless of what the LCD panel is saying. There are two bulk head connectors under the glove box (not in the same place you would find the resistor pack in other models). Each connector has two wires. One of them is held at 12v. the other connector has zero volts and according to be my meter is almost zero ohms (closed circuit). This connector shows some signs of scorching but the terminals appear to still be good. unplugging either of these will cause the motor to stop. Very occasionally and usually just after starting the ignition, the motor will blast at full power for a second or two before reducing to low power. If anyone else has any experience of this problem, I would be very interested to know if or how you resolved it.
