Hi,

I currently have a 2007 fiat punto grande elganza and having a major problem with the brake lights every so often (mainly when going around corners) or when it's wet I'm getting a check stop lights warning on my dash board which can stay on for around 5-10 seconds , however when the warning goes off the lights work perfectly fine but when it's on it doesn't work.

Can anyone help me as it's a mystery to me.

Cheers

Have a look at the connectors as they could be dirty or rusted. When I bought my car I had the same issue found out that one of the pins in the light connector has rusted. I've used little bit of sanding paper and wire brush to remove the rust and cleaned it with election cleaner, the rust was coming back every 2 months and I had to keep cleaning it but been advised to put some vaseline on the connectors and I don't seem to get that problem anymore but it's just over 2 months since I've put the vaseline on the connectors so fingers crossed it won't rust again.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I did try that and the condition of the pins seem perfect but did rub them over with a piece of sandpaper. Unfortuanetly to no avail as soon as I tried it, it it came on again within about 10 minutes of driving. Could it be the wiring that's been damaged or anything else ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

is it ALL of the brake lights..?

if it's ALL then could be supply wiring, or the brake switch at pedal

if it's just the 1 x light cluster..then you know where to concentrate your attention,

Wow that's rusting quick. I'm no sparky or mechanic, but are the seals around your back lights okay? I'm pretty sure they shouldn't rust at all, let alone every 2 months.

I'm also having this issue. I'm starting to think this is a fairly common issue? I haven't had a look at my light clusters yet (Andy Monty recommended it to me months ago) as I haven't had the time, but now my headlights gone I thought now's the time if any to have a look.

Does anyone know where the tube for the back window wash runs through? I'm wondering if mine might be leaking somewhere. I can't conclude without seeing behind the problem, but I do seem to have washer fluid issues at the same time.
