My daughter's 2006 Punto has had an intermittent issue with remote central locking (sometimes worked, sometimes didn't) and now it doesn't work at all. Symptoms are:

- Remote locking/unlocking of car and hatch not working;
- Central locking switch on dash not working;
- Remote hatch release button on dash not working.

Locking/unlocking using the key in the door works fine.

The main problem with this situation is that it is very difficult to open the hatch (the manual release lever is hidden away on the boot latch). I've checked and cleaned fuses 73 and 77 in the dashboard fusebox with no effect. The key battery has also been replaced.

I'd be grateful for any guidance on what to do next!

Thanks, Richard

Well the central locking switch on the dash worked the other day and my daughter says it always works so I probably didn't test it properly. In nthe absence of anything else I'm going to check the tailgate latch wiring and the tailgate loom. Maybe a break somewhere there disables the central locking? Unfortunately the workshop/service manual download on this site is in Italian!

Usually it is the resistors inside the keyfob that broke and fell off. They can be purchased from ebay and resolderd, Very easy to do.

I know the thread is ancient, but I have exactly same problem with my 2010 Evo. It can be related to proxy alighment I did recently, but I'm not sure. How did you get it fixed?

I have asked for more info but it looks like those forumers doesn't want to share their experience/solution, unfortunately as many others :-(

BTW, we don't know who we'd talk to, nor which car we'd talk about; doesn't look like a good start...

I want to install cruise control - thus I needed to make sure I can do the alighment before disassembling the steering column.
It really seems that I've unregistered the key remote. Will probably go to mechanic to get it checked. Knowing what I did wrong would be good tho, since dumping plans for that cruise control is sad. :(

If you're key still works fine try placing the remote key in the ignition with ignition on then close door and lock and unlock the door with the other key a few times holding it in the lock/unlock position for a few seconds

I've known it work to re resister the remote unit on other cars many times

Damn, I have only one key. And no code card. Ignition works fine, it's just the electric central lock that's dead. Boot won't open from the outside button too.

The doors and the hatch have their own fuse (F77 & F73), both share their opening/locking signals from the same controler, which receives the command signal from: the dash button, the driver's door internal switch AND/OR the antenna. As you describe, the signal from the antenna is missing or not processed in the control module...

Could that be as simple as a dead battery in the keyfob ?

ps: be aware that pin numbers from the antenna are different for cars < 12/2006

Thanks, will check it. Btw, where do those diagrams come from?
Battery - unlikely, why wouldn't boot opening from dash button work then? Plus, I've checked it, it's 3.02 volts, which is quite fresh for such battery.

Diagrams: most of what I post are extracted from eLearn.

Battery: a fresh CR2032 or CR2016 shows 3.32VDC (unloaded), so with 3.02 volts, your battery shows real sign of weakness.

Boot not opening: You probably have two issues, this one being another ...

Replace the keyfob battery and see what happens.
