Just a quick question. Recently I had my car in gear but the clutch depressed. I revved the car up to about 4000 rpm. Then the car started to move and a smell of burning. Is the clutch going or is it a gearbox problem. Or something else.
Many thanks

If the pedal was fully depressed and is still biting I would suspect the slave cylinder or the master cylinder. Why do you feel it is necessary to rev to that for no reason?

+1 for slave cylinder. Peel the rubber boot back that covers the end of it where the pushrod comes out and see if it is wet in there. If it is, you need a new slave cylinder. Unfortunately, by the time you get smoke coming from a clutch, you've probably done it a bit of damage!
