Hi Guys.

I have a 1.9 JTD Grande Punto and will be changing the pads and discs for the first time since I've had the car this weekend but I need some help!

I changed the pads on my friends 1.4 TJET Bravo yesterday after failing miserably for hours to realise that the nearside caliper piston needed to be wound in anti clockwise WHILST being pushed in hard to get it to retract. Fiat said the offside was standard wind in clockwise, however it again was anti clockwise whilst pushing down hard on the piston.

BEFORE I do my Punto I would like to know if this is the same case on the rear before I start doing this job. Are the calipers sided or are they left hand thread or right hand, whilst Im asking, are the fronts wind back or push back.

Had a search cant find anything already posted!

Cheers guys!!

Tom

caliper piston should just push in using tool below
if you find it hard to push it in, undo bleed nipple prior to pushing

Fronts are just pushed back in.

Rears require a Capiler rewind tool. Unfortunately i'm not sure which it needs (left or right threaded), but it should be the same on both sides. I have never worked on a car that required 2 rewind tools to do the job, it should only require one.

Having changed the rear discs on my GP t-jet today I can confirm that they need winding rather than pushing in. Also, it is vital to note that the left hand piston has a left hand thread so needs to be wound the other way (wind in direction of wheel rotation on each side). This makes buying wind back tools expensive as you need two - happily, a small angle grinder disc change key is a perfect fit and makes the job easy.

I confirm that you have to rewind only the rear brakes, this is due to the automatic wear correction for the hand parking brake...
Here's the correct procedure excerpt from eLearn :)
