No point in trying the hydraulic lifter treatment, These engines are shim and bucket, no hydraulic lifters in them

Ahhh okay thanks for the heads up. I've worked out that assuming I have the correct oil capacity value, (2.6l), that I have over filled by 0.2-0.3l . Is this enough to cause an issue?

Don't quote me on this (as i may be wrong), but i'm sure i read somewhere the difference between min and max is 0.5 litre.

I'd give an approximate at 0.25-0.3 over by your reckoning

Sounds pretty spot on to me. I've decided to book it in anyway, get someone to take a look. Im just not very trusting with mechanics, big believer in doing things yourself where poss, but I've been recommended someone so I'll see what he has to say.

Cheers for the help.

So took it in to a mechanic for a look, the guy popped the bonnet and said he couldn't really hear much wrong with it, it had warmed up by this point so wasn't as bad as starting it from cold. He said it was hard to say without hearing it start from cold but he would say it was just tappets and not anything major to worry about.
He said if I was worried about it to book it in so they could hear it from cold. But essentially said he wouldnt say its major priority fix (Im driving back up to uni at the weekend)

He mustn't know about these engines then, they don't have tappets :bang:

Really, a garage would need it from cold to diagnose it (y)
