Hi All,

I'm new here but have found alot of your threads useful in helping to fix the many issues that crop of with Sid (My Punto).

But I've got a new problem. My engine is very noisey even at idle.

I've attached an audio clip of the noise.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dexter

Its a 1.4 active sport.

Do you think is could still be the timing chain ?

How big of a job is it ?

Thanks :)

There is no chain on the 1.4 only belt.

The noise (not the ticking the other one) sounds like a bad (old actually not bad) bearing noise.

Last timing belt / pump service?

If you were very close to that area the noise is pretty normal for this engine...

I was pretty much standing over the engine when I recorded it. It just sounds rough to me. Like something is loose/needs tightening. The noise is constant. Its an 06 plate so maybe its just showing its age...

I've owned it just over 2 years and i have no evidence of a timing belt replacement/service. Maybe I should look into it !

Thanks for your advice/help.

I'd go with one of the following based on the whirring noise:

Belt tensioner or idle pulley bearing
Knackered water pump
Aux belt pulley bearing

I would get it looked at ASAP though, if it's one of the top two, the failure of these components can land you with an even bigger garage bill

Are any of these things easy to test/fix ?
Or will I need to book it in.

Thanks

Living in Bournemouth. I don't mind attempting the work but if its way out of my skill set it might be best to get some help !

The cars been reliable until the last couple of week. I had to fit a new heating resistor & rewire part of the loom which wasn't much fun.
Then my rear engine mount snapped clean in half !
