Cruise control - 1.2

Hi,

I own a 1.2 Grande Punto from 2006. I have it for one month now. I've tried the cruise control several times, but it won't work. I've tried every possible way and even looked it up in the manual ... but still no luck.

If I turn the key I see the CC light on. Once I start it and drive away it immediately turns off. Am I doing something wrong? Does the light turning off once driving indicate there is something wrong with the wiring/sensors or something?

Appreciate your help.

Bonus question:
I'm looking for the lights in the dashboard behind the 3 switches for temprature, blowing power and blowing direction.

What size do I need to look for? (Ebay)

Bulb you are looking for is a wedge type 12V 1.2W (100ma) code 286 . There is a guide to assist in changing them> I used the Elearn procedure in the downloads section. Worked out to be a combination of both, as I removed the front facia of the control panel (as in the guides pictures) to replace the bulbs from the front instead of from the rear as per the Fiat procedure

Most likely problem is a faulty switch on the clutch or brake pedal A search on here will pull up some info (I've a Croma not a GP). putting diagnostics (e.g. Multiecuscan www.multiecuscan.com) on the OBD port will tell you more.

Re: Cruise control - 1.2

Thank you Frosty and g8rpi.
@Frosty1961 - I'll look for it. Cheers!
@g8rpi - That makes sense. I'll try looking deeper in to it. And do you have a recommedation for a scan tool wich isn't (THAT) expensive? Cheers!

@yiDon
Multiecuscan is not that expensive. Unfortunatly the GP has minimal support from the unregistered version but it's still only 50 Euros to register. You cna make sure it works before registering and even play with it by clicking the "simulate" button instead of connect. An interface is 14 ebay item 271552894602, yellow adaptor lead 9 271547983086. A laptop can be had for under 50 if you don't have one. If you are handy with a soldering iron you can get an interface for 5 from China and remove 1 resistor, get a laptop on Freecycle and you could be under 50 total.

Re: Cruise control - 1.2

I've had a little progress:

My cruise control works ... kind off atleast. If I don't touch the brake at all the cruise control will work just fine.

However. Once I touch the brake, cruise control will be disabled, the green light will disapear and it won't be possible for me to turn it back on and use it again. Anyone familliar with this problem?

Hi,
Did you get this sorted out? Sounds maybe the brake pedal switch has an issue.

Re: Cruise control - 1.2

Soooo trying to make this thread alive! I Have 1.4 8v GP with the cruise control issue. It works until a certain moment when it gets totally disabled and until I restart the car it will not come back on. Local mechanic had it on OBD and said that there is an error with brake sensor, but brake light come up when I push the pedal. So could it be like a dying switch behind the B pedal that causes CC to fully switch off? I tried on a stand still pushing the pedal whit CC on, then it works...weird situation

Re: Cruise control - 1.2

The switch got two channels working in oposite logic: when one circuit is closed, the other is open and vice-versa, kinda fly by wire safety feature. As soon as you touch the brake pedal, the CC is DISENGAGED until you reset it with the stalk to start cruising again. If the BCM detects an inconsistency with the switch (both channels closed), it will DISABLE the cruise control, so you'll have to cycle the power to enable it again ...
Also nothing happens if the car's below a predefined speed; so all you described is normal behavior assuming the brake switch is kaputt, but it can be coming from the wiring as-well !

BRs, Bernie

Re: Cruise control - 1.2

So basically i should start with changing the brake switch under the brake pedal.

What certain point, a particular speed? Or if you hit a bump?
If it's at a certain speed it is likely to be a faulty ABS sensor or ring. A bump could be tthe brake switch but I'd expect you to be able to re-engage the CC without switching off if it was a faulty pedal switch.

It works until i switch it off with clutch or brake pedal. The light stays on but at some point it switches off, and the screen says cc off. No idea from what it happens, after the car restart cc works fine...
