Hi, changing my discs and I have no idea if I need to order vented or solid? Its a 57 reg - but blue badges (if that gives an idea as to when manufactured)

Thanks(y)

I'm not around the car at the moment. It's stored away for the time being. However I'm pretty sure they're solid. However searches on car part suppliers bring up vented and solid, hence the confusion

My 06 active 1.2 had vented, guy behind the desk commented on the fact they were same as a corsa, and that the oil filter was off a Volvo s40

Only other suggestion I have is to either go and check or order both and return one, shouldn't be an issue as long as the box is sealed

Finally had the chance to check today and the ones fitted are solid. What do you mean by ARB?

Some knowledgeable help would be much appreciated.
My son has a 57 plate Grande Punto 1.2 petrol.
We need to replace front discs and pads. Having used sites and based on the reg number to find the correct discs i have acquired replacements which are vented ones as all sites offer vented for the reg number.
Now that I've looked at doing the job the current ones are solids and about 10mm thinner than the new vented ones.
Can someone help by knowing if I can use these 10mm thicker vented ones as I don't want to unpack the new discs and then be unable to return them. I'm hoping the piston will go in far enough to accommodate them but I’m also hoping someone will know before I try.

I'd say not, 10mm is a lot. I think the vented are larger diameter too. My 1.4 8v takes vented of 257mm diameter. I fitted mintex parts number mdc1735.

Phone up fiat parts dept with you vin number and get the right part number for your car then cross reference that with aftermarket parts.

Cheers

Ben

It might be that it had originally had vented disks, but somebody fitted solid ones because they're cheaper.

Remove the wheel, push back the piston, measure the max width, then subtract the thickness of 2 brake pads.. what you have left should be the max thickness of a brake disk +3-4 mm.

Just for info.. you can fit the thinner solid ones instead of a vented one...(but not recommended..as in some cases of extreme disc and pad ware the cylinder could pop out, leading to an extremely dangerous situation). the other way around won't work (the disc will not fit in the caliper.. of disk + new pads won't fit)

Thanks for the advice. I played safe and returned the vented ones for the standard discs which are actually 8mm thinner. Having fitted the thinner ones i can say there is no way that the vented would have fitted as with the piston fully retracted there was only about 1mm clearance between disc and pads.
