My GP's Check Engine light showed itself today when I was out driving.

Before the light turned on, I had a feeling that something was off. The car drove OK, but it did not seem to rev as quick as usual. In corners, the engine would almost cut out and I had to give it more gas than usual. Well, I did try to turn the engine on and off a few times and that did not change a bit.

I drove home, and went inside to find my ELM327 bluetooth obd dongle from China. When I got back out, and turned the engine on again, the light had disappeared. Well, I plugged in the OBD and got a readout of latest error codes. It said P0106, which apparently means “MAP/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem”.

Does any of you have similar problems with the GP, and what is the fix? Is it the MAP sensor, which is wonky?

I have a few other suspects, but I do not know if they can cause the problem.

Some of the bolts in the exhaust manifold broke earlier this year, and I had them replaced, but one of the threads is broken in the cylinder head. The guy that repaired it said the seal was tight for now, but in the future they might have to drill out the cylinder head and make a new thread.
Afterwards I had very small amount of noise from the manifold when the engine was cold – when it got warm, the noise disappeared. That usually happen when the air temperature was about 5 degrees. Today it is -3 degrees. Could the colder have caused a bigger leak in the manifold, which gave the error, and when the engine got warmer the check engine light turned off?

Another suspect is the battery – it is almost 10 years old and the battery in my brothers GP died the other day – his was 8 years old. Is it possible, that there is a lower voltage from the battery that can cause the “check engine light” to turn on?
