Can anyone help please? I have a 1.6 120ps 16v GP and have very few complaints with it, it has had a slight smell of coolant ever since I brought it about 2 years ago, it uses about 1cm in height of coolant from the expansion tank every 2 months, it is consistent but having done the timing belt a few months ago when the decision to keep the car long term was made I am now dealing with all the minors. my symptoms are as follows, start the car and allow to warm and pressurise and whilst this happens a small but consistent amount of coolant will appear on the top of the inlet manifold directly at the joint of the inlet and head, it comes from the cam sprocket end (left as you look in the bonnet) and seems to be leaking from the very left end of the head and will flow from left to right and then evaporate away under normal use temps. what I don't understand is what water joint is higher than where the coolant collect. The head gasket joint must be well below the inlet manifold, the bleed screw for the heater matrix and some pipework is behind the manifold and higher but it does not appear to be running down from there it does not appear to be running down at all, when the engine was running I blew all the coolant away from where it sat on the top of the inlet manifold and it flowed back from the left hand end just as it always does, I am sure if I take it all apart I will find the leak but if someone has seen it before or is familiar with these engines then advice is welcome. finally I have elearn but it isn't much use as my car is not covered does anyone have, know of or where to purchase copy etc one for the 1.6 16v diesel, thank you in advance Ian

Most cars have coolant running through manifold? Could be A crack or a dodgy gasket ? Don't know these engines so not 100%

You where right, 13 pounds for fai gaskets, 6 hours to strip and similar to clean and assemble, a saving of 800 pounds. I shan't spent the 800 on anything though as I didn't have it, which is why I spent 12 hours upside down between my bulkhead and engine.
