HI all. As above. My car has recently developed a rattling noise around the steering wheel. Can't actually pin point the exact location. Only finding it happens when the engine is hot or when going over uneven road surfaces.

Are you sure it's from the wheel and not from outside ? ie around the springs etc

Try to turn the wheel while stationary and listen for noises.

had the car looked over tonight, no signs of mechanical wear.

mechanic took off tyres, brakes, had the car up on the lift and nothing was loose.

he took it for a drive, and believes the issue to be behind the dashboard console, possibly something falling into he engine and rattling when picking up speed or driving over rough terrain.

but said nothing to worry about as the car in good condition otherwise

What engine? Could be a loose intake air hose (filter side)
