Hi,

I've been working on the front of the car (stripping it down to check coolant and boost hoses etc) and to do so I had to take the bonnet release cable out of the lock mechanism.

I mustn't have put it back in correctly as now I can't open my bonnet with the lever.

Does anyone have any ideas how to open it from the outside?

I can't just grab hold of the cable and pull as it's no longer in the mechanism.

Thanks
Jacob

Luckily, there is a way to open a car hood when the release mechanism is "broken."
To do so, use a flashlight to locate the primary hood latch, In many cases, the latch assembly is attached to the radiator support hood, where it is accessible through the grill. I clip the grill and you should be able to see the latch, or Depending on the model, the most efficient approach might be from underneath the vehicle. With a screwdriver,, pliers,, or a thick piece of wire,, carefully manipulate the primary latch.

Make sure this is carried out with extreme caution to avoid further damage to the car. Once the first latch is released manually, you can access the release lever on the safety latch. At this point, as long as this latch works correctly, the hood should open up fully. ?

That's the hood sorted, now what about the OP's bonnet.

And a torch will work just as good if you don't have a flashlight.
