Hi All,

Thinking about doing a brake fluid change on my GP. Sure I read somewhere that it needs to be done under pressure due to ABS?

I managed several fluid changes on a Hilux with ABS without using a pressure bleeder so wondering why on this car, or any other with ABS that I should have to bleed with a pressurised system rather than with the two man, jam jar and clear tube method which has always worked before?

Cheers

Ben

I'm not sure. Grande Punto, 2006-2015, Online Haynes manual:
"Due to the standard fitment of ABS to all models, a pressure- bleeding kit must be used for bleeding the hydraulic system."
(Haynes Part #MOL5956 , https://haynes.co.uk)

Could someone with some knowledge comment on why they recommend that? What are the risks? Is it just to be sure that the ABS pump won't run dry?

I'm probably just gonna do the recommended thing and buy a pressure-bleeding kit, it's still much cheaper than having a garage do it. The garage would probably not use a pressure kit anyway :D
