Hi, I'm new here, haven't had my Punto long.

I've experienced on a few occasions now when driving that when I get to 3000rpm the car seems to lose the oomph lets say. I went to overtake today and I literally must have been at 3001rpm and the problem occurred and the car then struggled to get past.

I read something on here that said about an air pipe but not sure about that.

On all times this has happened I have lifted the bonnet when I've arrived at destination and there is a silver cylinder with 3 attachments to tubes that come out of the top. I have pushed down on these every time and one of the 3 (the same one) is always raised until I push it down.

After turning the engine back on and after about 5 minutes the engine light goes off again.

Does anyone know what this problem is or experienced anything similar?

Thanks

Jordan

The silver cylinder is the fuel filter. Chances are it could be a faulty sensor. Possibly on throttle body.

What engine is this? At a guess (if it is the fuel filter), the hose is not locking in place for some reason, causing the rise in fuel pressure to lift the hose off and the demand for fuel is sucking in air? Its hard to tell what's going on with the info provided. Tell us more :) Can you test this by having someone rev the engine slowly back and forth between 2500 and 3500rpm while you visually check what's happening with the hose?

You could also check the hoses from turbo to intercooler, and from intercooler to intake manifold. These can split or crack and you will lose boost pressure causing lack of power. This can also be done by having someone hold the revs at 3000 whilst you visually check hoses.

It's a 1.3 multijet diesel. I will try all the suggested after work tomorrow and hopefully I will find out the problem! I'm still learning about the car so thanks for the help!

Im facing the same problem. Checked all the hoses but still the problem is ther. Plz sugeest as im facing this problem from 1 year and i have found no one who could solve this problem

Dear Akash, welcome on board !

I am a bit amazed that you've waited so long to post your issue here !
As everyone can see, the original post ends on october 2015, without proposing any solution (not event the beginning of one).

This is possibly due to people getting tired of collecting informations about the poster's car/engine.

I will personaly and from now NOT REPLY to any post missing the minimal info needed to understand what we're talking about.

Car model / Engine type / Displacement / output BHP . With those one will be able to be more precise in trying to solve the issue, without wasting time to ask again and again...

From your post I can undertand that you own a Grande Punto / Diesel / 1.3 / ... Missing the BHP, which would have told us if you got a wastegated or moving vanes turbo. This is not a detail since they're managed differently !!

@ the previous poster(s) and future ones: PLEASE try to be more precise: " a silver cylinder thing under the bonnet" is not really a professionnal description ! If one cannot identify a fuel filter, I doubt about one's ability to diagnose / fix problems on the car !
The attached pictures show the fuel filter and the connections at the high pressure pump (notice the EGR solenoid removed from the valve ;-)

@ dom booth : hope this answer suit your rule, I never meant to be impolite, probably a bit rude, but hey, need to bark at the three sometimes...

Regards, Bernie
