OK, here's what I did....
I'm not saying this is the best way, but it's worked:
Take off the door card & weather seal, this is described elsewhere so I won't go through it here.
Take out the rubber seal around the window frame, it can be eased out without too much difficulty. You'll probably need to do this anyway if you have some broken glass left behind.
Lift off the lower seal along the opening that the window rubs against. It's hooked into the door at the front so best eased up from the middle toward the back, ease out the back, then work to the front and twist away from the door.
Take out the window regulator
Take out the guide that the window pushes against just by the door lock.
Take out the speaker , by drilling the rivets off (you may not need to do this, but mine came out so I could get the vac in to clean out the glass).
Take out the 3 torx headed screws that hold the lock in. I found that the door locking electric cable connector just got in the way, loosening the lock allowed a bit more room.
The window goes in from the outside of the car, with the big forward end down first, at a slight angle back from vertical. You can ease it in and then lower the back around so that the window effectively sits in the bottom of the door.
Refit the rubber seal that goes around the window frame, do the front first, then the back. If you fit a couple of inches of seal to the frame, you can slide it down past the window, then work the seal back up & around the frame.
Push the window gently up from inside the door, it should slide into the frame seal and the guide on the front edge of the window should engage in the seal.
Refit the regulator with the window fully up, wind the regulator to the bottom and guide the window down over it.
Put all the other bits back.
