Ordered one recently. Steering wheel controls do indeed work, you can change a setting so that you don't need to connect the Bluetooth each time and the fit is fine. You may need to file the plastic down a bit though as mentioned, I did with mine

Any chances of some pics mate? Would be good if we could get a load of pics in the thread of how it looks in everyones units (y)

Sorry for the bump.

Just wanted to know how people are getting on with their units? Anyone got any photos of their units in their car, or if anyone had any operational issues? Seems like such a good idea, but the lack of photos of how it looks makes me worried lol.

Hi guys,

I have Pumpkin with 2GB RAM. TBH I was not completely sure if this will be good choice. I have read (before purchase) many tutorials how to connect aftermarket radio and I was a bit scared. At some point I was considering to save some cash and to buy well known brand. But most of them lack possibility to download apps from Play Store which was the main reason I was looking after Android unit. Just to fully customise it.
I have attached some pics I took after 1 month of everyday use. And I am really enjoying it.
I am from Broxburn in Scotland so if anyone would like to see how it works, just drop me a msg.
Will try to upload some video when find spare time anyway.

What fascia plate are you using mate? It looks like you've got different air vents from the standard console, are you also using a third party console replacement?

I bought fascia plate from Dynamic Sound, but they (and other sellers too) are selling these only for left hand drive cars so smal cutting job is required to fit to inside air outlet. But it is pretty easy, 10 mins job.

Did you make said mod to the air outlet or to the fascia itself? Nice going mate, looks pretty damn good. Didn't know there were actually any double DIN fascias out there!

The outlet, see the pic for the marked part that needs to be cut out to fit inside. But removing this part does not make any significant change to the air flow.
Will try to post some pics in the next couple of days to show how does it look like when disassembled.

Sorry for the delay, had no time recently. I took some pics when had to remove the HU and check the wires (microphone problem).

The first photo (left) shows what I had to cut off (I know, it's very amateur way and could be done much much better).
Second shows the back of the HU, canbus adaptor (third picture) and plenty of wires ;)
On the last one, you can see (same unprofessional work) my attempts to make the inside of the fascia a bit wider (head unit did not fit in just like that).

Great info, thank you
I have now installed my double din Clarion unit with the double fascia plate.
I now have gps, DAB radio and it is excellent and I think it looks good too.

Sorry, I don't know why the photos are the wrong way around, I don't know how to change them.

hopefully this thread is still alive, sorry for bumping it if not.

Just bought another grande punto sporting 1.9, all black, lowered on coilovers , remapped, Cruise control and full leather for £1700, so a pretty sweet deal.

Currently iv got my own head unit but I like the steering wheel control but not the factory unit as I can't have aux in, what are the overall views of people using the unit they bought from overseas?

Also would you recommend the unit from the original thread or instead buying a double din adapter and buying an android equivalent?

If so what have people found to be the best android head units? With the overall best performance and ease of use?

Cheers :)

Added some pictures if anyone is interested :)
Currently In the process of refurbising the wheels from.silver to audi quarts grey, what do people think? I'll throw some pictures on of them too

Car is looking great. :)

You probably know already but it's very easy to run an aux in cable from the factory head unit?

There's a guide on this site including fitting a powered bluetooth receiver. I just fit the cable and plug my phone in to it, works a treat :)

By any chance do you have a link to it? Iv done quite a bit of reading etc beforehand and it seemed people with the blue and me system could run the aux wire as it uses the same port? Iv already checked this and all connections are taken up, so I assumed I'd have the same issue?

I'm still interested In the head units people have on here and the double din ones did they need any modifications to make them fit

I don't have Blue&Me so can't say anything, but as for fitting 2DIN head unit, you won't do any modification to the radio, just plug-in CANbus adapter and maybe some DIY in the air vents (easy job - see my posts and manian1)

I bought a Chinese unit but sent it back, it stopped working and it was a lot of hassle to get a refund.
In the end I bought the 2 din adaptor and a decent unit

Hello guys, I am a GP owner from Republic of Macedonia. I bought my GP few months ago and i wanna upgrade the HU. I've read all the older posts, but since I live in a country where the average wage is 322.87 GBP monthly, so you can imagine what is the minimum wage :bang:. However all this options seem to be too expensive for my taste and pocket. Does any of you know some cheaper HU that can fit in the GP? Something that hasn't got sat nav on it for example, or something that is smaller idk..:worship:
