Essentially yes..but you have to loosen the alternator mounting bolts slightly to allow it to pivot to enable you to replace the belt ,and then by moving it the opposite way to apply the correct amount of tension.
Tensioning the belt correctly allows the belt to drive the alternator.Too slack and not only will the belt squeal as it slips but it wont charge the system. Too tight and you run the risk of ruining the alternator bearings.


As a rule of thumb I would try and get half an inch or so's deflection in the middle of the belts run.

This applies only to versions without a/c

a/c versions have auto-tensioner.
