hi guys

I have the problem - When I put my keys in I get no response from the car, No lights come on the dash and I can twist the key to ignition but still nothing (no power)

I know the battery is not flat, all lights work, car unlocks, radio comes on etc...

Its just the key bit ... after a while of leaving the key in the plug then sometimes power resumes and the dash lights up allowing me to turn the car on... if not I am stranded. ATM I am stranded over 40 miles from home and have to stay at University..

Does anyone know what the problem is?
Have you had it?
How much repair?
Can I sort it myself?

Had RAC out at 00:00AM whilst stuck out last night and he told me he thinks its a loose wire or damp in the ecu ... can anyone confirm?

Thank You

Luke

Sounds like a problem I had with ECU unit, had to get a new one in the end, thankfully it
was still under warranty tho.

The first thing I would do is check all the connections, starting at the battery, pay special attention to the earth connections, i think that there is an earth going to the ECU. Then check the plugs and sockets, I am afraid to say that Italian cars do seem to suffer from lousy connectors. I had an Alfa that gave odd problems, an hour or so cleaning earths and connectors solved a whole raft of issues.

While you're digging around the battery check the engine bay fuse box isn't all wet - that can cause all sorts of issues.

There are lots of threads on corrosion, drying it out etc

Car has been in car park at uni now since Sunday night and i went out yesterday left the keys in for 10 mins (clicked on) whilst i was looking under the bonnet at the earths and on its own it powered up all electrics (which didnt shock me as this has happened once before but just not to this severity)
Car then powered up every time i tried for the next few mins

I have not been back since and do not need to use the car till the end of the month so im going to keep going to check if its working wether to decide if im gona get an auto electrician out to me $$$ or drive home (or rac tow me haha)

Will be going back out to car park tomorrow or Friday with a screw driver to pull bits in pieces :) (joys)

Hopefully its just earths and i can remove some rust etc

Battery issue. new battery fixed this.
(garage told me the battery was fine.. it was not.)

Turns out the battery had effected one of the codes also so the one the car had and the one sent from the ignition had altered slightly... (what the garage told me)
