just bought a beautiful gp 1.9 d eleganza, with 79k on the clock... sounded and ran amazing when I got it and I have to say off a real genuine guy on a private sale...fsh, cam belt done ,new tyres etc etc but as soon as I pulled on my drive I heard the dreaded chatter, which disappears when the clutch is depressed...I'm assuming dmf and clutch, also assuming the 1.9 8v td has a dmf?? can someone confirm this for me please?

Yes it's DMF.

Mine was replaced at 50k when the gearbox was rebuilt, my flywheel started chattering to. Not cheap.

gearbox rebuilt at 50k....that's a bit drastic?

Bearings replaced, well known fault on the M32 gearbox - I had the same car as you 1.9 120 Elegenza quite rare only sold for a couple of years.
