Hi all, have browsed this forum for a while now and have found some very useful info so was hoping for abit of help.

Have a 07 plate Grande Punto - Never had any problems with my clutch (had every other problem possible im sure!) however got in my car to drive to work and the clutch pedal went straight down and stayed down, there was no resistance in the pedal at all. I then noticed some oil under my bonnet - is this related? Im hoping my clutch hasnt gone as i have been told this could be pricey!

sorry if this seems obvious i am a relatively new driver and my car is driving me up the wall! :bang:(n)

Welcome to the forum :)

I'd put money on it being the clutch slave cylinder - not an expensive part but need to confirm where the hydraulic fluid was leaking from (I'm going on the assumption that it's that on the floor, and not gearbox oil). Whereabouts in the country are you?

Thanks :)

Is it quite simple for a garage to fit? I hope it is i have spent too much on this car already haha. I am from the Midlands - Just outside of Birmingham

I did it on my Punto Mk1 GT in a couple of hours, as an amateur in an engine bay with no room for maneuver. The GP engine bays are nice and open so should be an easy job for a pro. If you were closer I'd have come and had a look just to confirm the fault. Can you get some pictures of the gearbox and see if there are any obvious fluid leaks in that area?

I had something similar to this back in November due to a corroded clutch supply pipe. Sadly though I wasn't at home when the clutch failed and it was actually on a Friday night in rush hour traffic and the pouring rain which wasn't much fun :(

However looking back it was something I should have addressed sooner rather than later as I'd been noticing a wet circle on the ground beneath the engine bay for at least a month or 2 previously but always assumed as it evaporated it wasn't that urgent.

Probably not much use to you except to say that the problem you are experiencing doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get an expensive bill. Hope that is the case

all depends on what engine is this (that's why I asked)

1.2/1.4 na = simple cylinder swap/cheap
tjet/mjet = gearbox out/expensive

All these IF the problem is on the slave and not on master pump :)

Thanks for the replies :)

its only a 1.2 engine. Update - i took it to the garage and they replaced something to do with the slave (can you tell im a complete novice). Cost me £85.

However driving it today there is still no pressure on the clutch till i get right to the bottom, it also got stuck down again and i had to pop it back up with my foot - does this mean the clutch needs bleeding? :bang:

Also i am from Tamworth!

I hoped they would of too! Oh well - back to the garage for me. :(

From what i have read on other threads on here i think they do share the reservoir - people on here so far seem more reliable then the garages i have been to so far haha.

I'm only up the road in Cannock, let me know if you get stuck.
