Hi all..

Hope someone can help me!

I have a punto grande 1.2 8v , it's been having some issues with starting cold recently. I checked with a code reader and am getting p0115 error code.

When I checked the live data this morning when the car was stone cold the ect read 7c which is about the ambient temp outside.

The things that's throwing me is the iat reading was 48c... I do belive this should be the same as the outside air temp when the cars cold ???

I have checked the connections and made sure I am getting 5v and a good ground at 11.8 v on the harness...

Any suggestions, I'm wondering if the ect sensor is ok but the iat is at fault ?

Cheers

Yes intake air temp should be around the same. Replace map sensor.

hi again...

i have changed to MAP sensor today, got a reading whislt the car was still cold... it now reads the same temp as the engine coolant temp.

The problem is when i try to turn the car over it just makes a grinding noise

ive checked the battery and its getting 11.8v... sounds like the starter motor grinding but ive never had issues with starting before ?!

11.8v = dead battery.

11.8v with the car running = dead alternator

Should be:
12.4-12.6 with the engine off
~14v with the engine on

would that explain the grinding noise on starting the car...

I tried to jump the car but this did not work either, just that same noise occurring.

did you jump the car by pole to pole method or negative chassis to chassis (the engine block)?

can you borrow another set of jump leads?

try a jump lead to the engine block from your battery (negative) and from your engine to the chassis of your car (engine mount)

then jump your car off with the other set...

chances are a bad earth = map sensor error and poor battery charging and no starting......

all are voltage related issues
