You'll get a dozen different answers to this question, most of them from people who've not tried enough tyres and haven't got enough 'feel' to give proper feedback. I'd look at the latest tyre tests from the likes of auto express or auto motor und sport for proper advice. If I recall correctly last years tests were dominated by the continental sport contact 5 which comes in the correct 205/45/17 size and 88 load index for a sporting gp.

I have been driving for 30 years and had a few cars. Only tyres I have put on more than once have been Vredestien. Two sets on a V6 MONDEO,one set on a 2 litre turbo Vectra.

Yeah we fit vredestein's to a lot of Evos and cars like that, normally happy with them

Just got michelin Pilot Sports for my Abarth, they seem a fair bit grippier than the PNeros that were on there previously.

I had continentials on my old 17" wheels and loved them, but I thought I check out the Pilot Sports for the 18's!

So my vote is either Continentals or Pilot Sports (Pilot sports have an A rating for the wet handling etc, so went for them to test out due to the amount of wet weather I would be expecting over the next few months.
