Hey guys I've read several guides on how to wire my radio up with the cigarette lighter live cable. However in these guides they say use heavy duty gauge wire, what size and type do I need? Can someone post me a link please ive Googled and it comes up with wire brushes...

Are you just using the cigarette lighter as a remote/signal cable so the radio comes on with the ignition?

If so just some regular 12v cable will do, I used some fairly cheap standard stuff off eBay with no problem.

Yes that was my plan, will a aftermarket radio not work at all unless I do this?

What I got told by a Halfords guy is that the proper way of doing this would be to connect the power cable to anything that comes up when you switch on the ignition. what you can also do is in ym stereo i have a Yellow and Red cable, you can connect the red cable to the yellow one and it should work but it should only be temporary as if you forgot to switch the unit off it will kill your batterry.

Correct unless you buy a loom for the stereo. as much as im confident with a soldering Iron I wanted to have it wired properly haha.
