Hi guys I replaced the standard radio In my car this morning, I removed the old one and disconnected the power cables. I fitted the new radio and it made a sound like it was powering on. The radio went dead then and nothing is happening.

I put the factory radio back in to see if that would turn on but now that is dead too, what could be the problem if both radios won't turn on??

Thanks

Ben

You need to run a line from the cigarette lighter (this is easiest) so that when the key it turned it powered on, as at the moment it is constantly powered off

I don't think you understand what I'm saying, I can't get the radio to turn on at all, even with engine on, the new radio which I bought and the factory one, neither of them turn on at all now

If all you did was unplug the standard radio and plug in the aftermarket radio then you could have easily blown a fuse, fiats are not designed to have aftermarket radios plugged in with out adaptor cables and separate power supply's being connected, this is because they communicate with the original radio via the digital canbus wires which on a normal ISO plug are the main power cables

Hopefully it's just a fuse but you can do serious damage to the car by just swapping them over and expecting it all to work

Hi thanks for the reply, what leads do I need for an aftermarket radio?

In all seriousness take it to a good auto electrician

Did you isolate the h and l CAN lines from the iso plug before fitting?

You can kill the body computer and other parts of the car that runs from the CANetwork iirc one of the can wires is in the position of the sub on / remote pin on a standard iso radio turn it on and you shove 12v into the body computer

Your milage flashing by any chance?

I'd concur that if you've pulled the plug out of the stock radio and managed to fit this directly to an after market one, then you've probably popped a fuse or upset something.

Generally, you can't just swap them around without some sort of rewiring or purchasing a suitable wiring converter.

I'm sorry to say, but there's a likely hood by doing this, that you may have inadvertently damaged something in the new head unit, especially if you popped a fuse.

I'd start by finding the popped fuse and refitting the original radio.
Then do some research and find a harness converter before trying again.
