Hi,
My last post, was my battery needed replacing about 2/3 months ago.
I now have a new issue. Yesterday I went to start my car, it clicked on and the lights came on. I went to crank it and a like electrical noise/ grinding came. I stopped the crank and waited. I tried again and it started.
I drove around and it was fine. Double checked last night after it went cold- it started fine.
This morning the exact same problem happened!

Having had a quick google of this- It seems that 1) starter motor issue
2) Battery isnt powerful enough.
(a note, i didnt get quite the same battery put on when it was replaced). Think it was kind of weaker.

Any input appreciated.

It could well be the battery, have you had it drop tested and have you had your starter and alternator checked?

Do you have anything aftermarket on the car electrical wise? Anything left running which could drain the battery?

Have you checked your earthing points on the engine bay?

Nothing has been done after market at all. Its bog standard.
Ill have a look- Ive had a new alternator already about 2 years ago- cost me a fortune to replace. Battery was replaced not so long ago, but just now its cold its started? Could this be it?
Not looked at starter motor.
My dads pretty good with cars so will be having a word with him. Stuck in work atm though so not sure.

check the earth strap for high resistance (using a battery load tester)

go between the battery terminals take reading then do the same between the live battery terminal and the engine block if theres a big drop chances are the main earth cable is rotten inside ((this also affects battery charging))

If the car isn't used much/for longer distances or low speeds, combined with the drain of lights heaters and the all consuming electric power steering, it doesn't take long to run down the battery and the alternator is then always trying to play catch up

Sounds like it needs a damn good charge,

Fiat rather sensibly put a quick release negative battery terminal on the grande, so I always disconnect the battery when I'm not going to use it for a couple of days

Just about to post that mine made an odd noise when I started it this morning. I only use it for short journey travel so will try the battery charge idea :)
