hi all! i have read many threads about the dreaded usb port... i have a 06 punto sporting that i recently bought.
so the system says no media found. tried reformatting usb drives (fat 32), tried disconnecting negative terminal on the battery for 15 mins, still nothing...
tried to update system but still wont read the drive (tried other drives as well)

the usb drive lights up, so there is current but the car wont read it :/ what can i try next?

try using a different memory stick. Format it first, put some MP3 music files in it, plug it in, it should work. Please use small capacity USB sticks, up to 8MB in capacity. And finally, buy a memory stick from a reputable manufacturer, such as Kingston, which is what I have been using in my GP since 2006. You will also see you have two USB ports in the glovebox, if the one on the left does not work, try the memory stick on the other USB port. Good luck and let us know if it works.

That's odd! My 2008 Grande Punto Eleganza has only got 1 USB port, and no auxiliary socket!

One the USB ports usually something to do with blue&me I think or fiat diagnostics in some way. Mine sometimes doesn't read USB but this is down to update gone bad. You tried a proximity alignment? Or see your local dealer see if they can sort it. I got quoted £600 for new blue&me module and used they are £80 on ebay

My Grande has blue&me, yet only has the 1 USB port.

Think some grandes came with one but usually you have one that can see and the other is behind a black cover near the windows sticker. An apparently its for dealers diagnostics/service

Not sure but I've read that you can take radio out and at the back you can plug a aux connector in an reroute it out. Or always official USB convertor which not cheap. More info here

I only ask because I'm sure the advert for mine said it had an auxiliary socket as well as USB. Mind you, it also said my Eleganza had cruise control, which it hasn't, lol!

Auto trader always get them wrong :p remember looking at cars before got the grande and some things what on them wasn't on them models as wasn't high end models.

The aux and cruise control were the only autotrader errors with mine. All the other lovely Eleganza toys are very much present, lol! :D

Mines a dynamic sport. I usually go for one with all bells an whistles but 32k on a 09 wasn't saying no. Plus had a ex mechanic test drive and once over said looked good :-D

Seems Fiat ommitted the second port on subsequent cars. My GP Sporting MJET was built in March 2006. Both USB ports read the memory stick nicely...

i thought the port itself had some broken contacts... i opened up the whole unit (only one usb... i guess this is the first version) and i checked out the pins, everything seemed fine... plugged back, tried the disconnect negative battery terminal trick for half an hour. still the same, the usb stick lights up but the radio still shows 'no source available'.

tried 3 different usb sticks. i guess i'll check with the diagnostics back at the dealer

So long as the USB sticks you used were less than 8gb, then I agree, you are taking the appropriate course of action. Mind you, I had mine replaced under warranty (the left USB port, the right hand side was fine), it kept malfunctioning on a weekly basis.
