Technical Tailgate Electric Problem

Hi all,
Last winter when it rained every single day I think water got in to the tailgate and affected the electrics.
For the past 8 or so months I have been driving around with the "door open" light on and the message saying that the tailgate is open message. The lights also flash 9 times when I lock the car.

I mentioned this to my local garage and they said to close the circuit by locating the wires.

Has anyone ever done this?
If not, what options do I have? If I replace the lock I first need to seal whereeve the leak is which is going to be difficult to find.

Mine also has the same problem mate , lack of time or money has stopped me looking at it,

I think they all seem to leak slightly; many people have reported a dribble of water from the rubber buffer mounting holes when opening. The latches are cheap enough that I'd change it whether I'd fixed the leak of not, if it gives up in another 18months time buy another one.
