I have a Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 Active Sport 2006.
Recently when I've been driving my car, t t struggles to go into third gear and always grinds. Sometimes it doesn't happen and goes in just fine. However third gear is the only one effected.

I'm not sure if I need my gear box replacing or new bearings?

I've searched the forum and couldn't see that it was a common fault especially it not being the 1.9 Multijet!!

Just wondered if anyone else could shed a little bit of light on the situation?! And had the same problems. The car done low mileage and isn't used alot.

I assume you've checked the gearbox oil level?

Third gear synchro is worn out..Will need a bulk ring , synchro and sleeve ..If you had the parts and someone with knowledge of gearboxes ,could be done in a day

the 1.9 gearbox isnt that bad!!

On my old 1.2 GP (same box as you) my 3rd's synco went, I actually found it cheaper to get a reconditioned box off punto spares off ebay (see his website, always gives good advice) it was about £250, I got a new clutch to go with it and with labour from a 'vat free' garage I payed 350 in total.

A last ditch effort could be some new box oil, i dont know what the viscosity is on your gearbox but I would definitely try fuchs sintofluid

Visit a fiat specialist (this is the critical part lol) and check cables / replace oil with a good one...
Also this can be a clutch related problem.
