My friend is about to buy a Punto 1.4 auto and she took me to do the test drive because she is not experienced driving in the UK yet (from Korea).

Everything seemed good about the car but I was a little concerned that from a stand-still it seemed to judder a little when starting to move. I assume this is becasue it does not actually go into geat until you put your foot on the accelerator pedal, unlike other autos I've driven which will start to creep forward as soon as you take your foor off the brake pedal. Am I right, is this normal for the car?

Juddering of course can be other things like engine mounts, so if anyone can confirm this is usual for the car that would put my mind at rest.

:)

Oh, also when the car was sitting idle (engine on) I noticed a kind of electric motor sound every so often from the engine bay. What the hell is it?!

Finally, there was a very slight ticking sound which I thought might be the crank-shaft pulley which damps vibrations with a rubber section in it. Is this a common part to be worn out on these cars? I know it is on my old Pug 306. It was only slight but I was asked to be fussy.
