I've had the car since Oct 2010 and i've noticed the past few weeks every so often when I turn on the ignition I get a brief message " Service xxx" where xxx is a number.

It doesnt stay on for long, but I assume it's meant to tell me it needs a service.

It had one last November, and I do 4-5k miles per year so shouldn't need another...

Any ideas? Do i need to return to where the last service was done and get them to sort this? Or do I ignore?
Thanks

Did it get reset the last time it was serviced? I think after 1,000 miles it goes off by itself.

I service my own car and in the 25000 miles i have run the car for (now on 54k) the service indicator has never flashed up. And iv serviced it twice in the two years I have it.

Something tells me one of the previous owners/garage might have disabled it.

I've done just over 4000 miles in the 10mths.
It's never flashed up before prior to these last few weeks. It had it's first service by me Nov 13 and I've had it since Oct 2010 where it was serviced prior to purchase by dealer.

I don't have a countdown or anything set

Hi again,

I now have a Service Expired message and a spanner.....

Tempted to return it to the garage and tell them to sort it :s..

I've read somewhere that this can be disabled...If I do that will it invalidate anything?

It's nothing. Eventually it will stop notifying you (after some ignition cycles or miles I don't remember) until a service reset procedure is done. :)

It's diesels that needs an oil reset. Petrols' is just a notification nothing more.
